Despite the fact that it was 2AM and I was in dire need of sleep, I still managed to watch all of Ghost World and then dream about it in my sleep too. Maybe it was the dysfunctional relationships between the equally quirky characters. Maybe it was because I could relate to the 'teenage angst' of hating suburbia. Or maybe it was because Enid, the main character, was just so damn cool.
From her bold attitude to her morbid ideas of 'fun', right down to her creepers and signature glasses, I knew I liked Enid. She was an outcast, a nerd. But she didn't give a shit! She was into art, creeping strangers in restaurants and making fun of 'normal people' with her best friend Becca. She did and said what she wanted to, no matter how weird or morbid it was (sex shop scene, anyone?) Mix that with the fact that the she had some
serious style going on (enough to inspire
Luella's Spring '08 collection) and you've got the ultimate bad-ass character that I pretty much wish I could be. LE SIGH.
So here's a tribute to nerdy-but-stylish, not-gonna-take-your-shit kind of girls like Enid everywhere.
