{ costume of the day } never forever

this skirt has decomposed drastically since the last time i wore it. sometimes i fear to wear things this old ~ i don't want to be responsible for their ultimate disintegration. but certainly it's no better for something so special to waste away in my closet, unworn?! if i were an old skirt i'd rather be rocked til i crash and burn, than to die quietly in neglect and obsolescence.

in a similar twist, i wore this necklace up to the very minute i had to let it go. of course, it didn't pass away so much as pass through my hands ~ finding its new home with a shrimpton couture client. i always tell myself that saying goodbye will get easier with time ~ the more jewels i make, the simpler it will be to let them go. but that's a lie; some pieces just stick with you. i feel the same way about my copper clover carcanet ~ i'll be both proud and (more than a little) sad when her number is called. alas, the only constant in life is impermanence.
