{ now you see it }

feeling a sort of super-future, softly techno vibe with this sparkly, scuba-ready laptop-case-turned-clutch, trippy trompe l'oeil jacket and jersey jam pants. this is the sort of ensemble that could have gone really relaxed, but for a few key accessories and a razor-sharp blazer. and i couldn't resist the subtle pun in pairing this kitty print blouse with leopard spotted shoes. hear me rawrrr.

{ costume of the day } polkadotorama returns

last may, i went on a week-long polkadot binge. anyone remember? this ensemble was sort of a fond flashback:

my boyfriend refused to believe that both this skirt and blouse were new. "isn't that the same stuff you've had forever?!" he asked/insisted.

look buddy, just because men are unable to understand the subtleties of silhouette does not mean i care to justify why i have a dozen almost-identical-but-not-quite items hanging in my closet (who's with me, ladies?!). i like what i like!
anyway, i picked these shoes to bring a slightly unexpected touch to this very routine-for-me look. i like that they're sort of tacky, totally seasonally inappropriate... and therefore completely perfect! i'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but i originally bought them because they reminded me of my favorite carrie bradshaw outfit ever!

attempting to continue with monday's theme of throwing on every nearby item in the same-ish colorway resulted in the above ensemble. i was really excited to wear this new ruffled wrap-front skirt; my only regret was not having more plaid pieces to pair with it. next time i'll really mix it up! preferably with at least one of these:

one thing i love (and yes, sometimes hate) about living in new york is that it annually undergoes four distinct seasons; each of which offers its own reasons for me to experiment anew with my style.

thus far this fall, i've been embracing pants and knits like never before. it feels a bit like stepping into a new character, if only for a moment. let's see where this skin leads me...

{ stole the show }

started obsessing over leopard stoles when first i saw them on dries van noten's fall 2010 runway...

...the fire was rekindled when they recently began popping up all over the street style sites...

...and the desire has finally been (delightfully faux!) satisfied by my most recent e-order:

i promise you, this piece is even better* in person!! i'll probably be wearing it all winter...

*and it's only $20!! honestly, i would have bought it even if they weren't a sponsor of this site. it's a great trend, a fun piece & SO versatile!

{ raindays as runways }

we've had a lot of rain this week in new york, which is fine when you get to stay put, all cozy at home. but it seems to be a rule of nature that the yuckiest days are also the ones where you're expected to appear all over town!

i've suffered through enough appointments in hideous rain gear (esp. my first couple years in NY!) to know that it's worthwhile to invest in an assortment of sheltering (but chic!) accessories, to help maintain your style on the most dismal of days. in case your own wardrobe could also use some weather-proofing, here are a few protective pieces i like right now:

{ anthropologie ruffle trench & cloche hat, sefton red-stripe umbrella, barney's navy umbrella, see by chloe wellies, anthropologie ensemble, land's end cropped trench }

{ modcloth umbrella, 3.1 philip lim moto/trench hybrid, hunter regent savoy wellies, imax umbrella stand, alexander mcqueen gold skull umbrella, spiegel matte jersey raincoat, silver raindrop earrings }

PS: this recent influx of shopping posts results from the fact that i'm fervently trying to figure out what exactly i need this season (this leads to a lot of online browsing), and i imagine you probably are too!

had a pretty spectacular week, but man am i ready for the weekend! slouchy dresses are my jam for the next few days.

{ lag time }

{ lanvin for h+m sunnies (i recently put lighter lenses in them & now love them MORE THAN EVER!), gifted ralph lauren denim + supply jacket, cecico top courtesy of modcloth, dedegumo watch, alexander wang shorts (no, your eyes do not deceive you; i love my black pair so much i just bought this second set in olive green), corello bag & shoes }

i ducked out of milan a day early, rushing back to new york for a styling gig. since arriving i've been running around prepping for that ~ and let me tell you, jet lag is for real. also lagging? the arrival of fall!! i've been wearing sweaters and jackets anyway, even though it's officially 5 degrees too hot to do so. oh well, FASHION FIRST.

{ costume of the day } harem scarum

confession: i've been wearing this outfit for the last several days ~ with no desire to switch it up at all! it's a bit dramatic (the strong-shouldered, draped-front jacket), kind of classic (the striped top), and beyond comfortable (the pajama-like pants). so, can you blame me?!

{ costume of the day } fancy pantsy

i did a photo shoot with lori goldstein recently (i'll show it to you soon!), in which she had me wear these miu miu pants. i became obsessed with owning them! they satisfy the high school hippy in me, who will never get over a bell-bottom silhouette, as well as the slightly older lass who longs for a little more sartorial sophistication. in other words, they're my kind of perfect. so you'd better get used to seeing a lot of them this fall!! during fashion week, the frequency may increase to every day. you've been warned.

just a quick post today to say hello; i'm currently in las vegas to support my girl cleo in her debut showing at project (the cute clutch i'm wearing is her design) ~ if any of you are around, please stop by booth #16015 and say hello!!

{ costume of the day } variation on a theme

it wasn't until after the day had passed and i was editing this post that i realized how similar the contained ensemble is to this one ~ both feature little else but an ivory blouse and black shorts. and yet, in the details, they are so different. isn't that the amazing thing about classic, basic pieces? they can be interpreted, worn, and re-worn in a million different ways!

{ d+g sunnies, the glamourai crystallized corsage necklace, bb dakota tunic (courtesy of modcloth), j. crew belt, rachel rachel roy shorts, vintage bracelets & knuckle ring, verameat 3-finger ring, juicy couture bag, aldo shoes }

PS: i fully recognize the inherent irony in exalting "classic basics" immediately after posting THIS. but it was hot out, i had a business meeting, and just couldn't get away with full-on feathers.

{ costume of the day } dining dash

i've been impatiently waiting for an excuse to wear this dreamy dress {it first appeared in this post}, and a monday night dinner party at nyc-spot-of-the-moment the lion finally afforded the perfect opportunity! the fabric is beyond gorgeous ~ with nuance and details that are sadly lost in this light.

since the temperature miraculously dipped below 90, i couldn't resist pairing it with my current favorite blazer. i always love a great jacket, and this one is the perfect weight, the perfect length ~ and the printed lining seems to weirdly work with everything in my closet! i capped it all off with an enormous necklace ~ a must-wear for seated affairs, when you need {more than ever!} an ensemble that entertains from the waist up.
