this weekend: wear, wear, re-wear. { versace sunnies, kelly framel earrings (NEW!), h+m scarf, zara leopard coat & snakeskin blouse, michael kors watch, vintage ring, gifted kate spade broome street jeans, pour la victoire boots }

{ costume of the day } polkadotorama returns

last may, i went on a week-long polkadot binge. anyone remember? this ensemble was sort of a fond flashback:

my boyfriend refused to believe that both this skirt and blouse were new. "isn't that the same stuff you've had forever?!" he asked/insisted.

look buddy, just because men are unable to understand the subtleties of silhouette does not mean i care to justify why i have a dozen almost-identical-but-not-quite items hanging in my closet (who's with me, ladies?!). i like what i like!
anyway, i picked these shoes to bring a slightly unexpected touch to this very routine-for-me look. i like that they're sort of tacky, totally seasonally inappropriate... and therefore completely perfect! i'm a bit embarrassed to admit this, but i originally bought them because they reminded me of my favorite carrie bradshaw outfit ever!

attempting to continue with monday's theme of throwing on every nearby item in the same-ish colorway resulted in the above ensemble. i was really excited to wear this new ruffled wrap-front skirt; my only regret was not having more plaid pieces to pair with it. next time i'll really mix it up! preferably with at least one of these:

another recent favorite streetstyle snap (the collarless trench is lovely, but it's the mixology that makes it!). leopard motifs rate just before kimonos on my list of all-time favorite things ~ and that spotted, skinny belt is a piece every girl needs. we've all noticed how groovy olive green has become, plus the bag she's wearing reminds me of the one i linked here. in short, this look sort of has it all: it's classic, timeless, ageless ~ but still quirky, unserious, and so appropriately now!

because of my friendship with the w hotels, i was able to sneak into michael angel's presentation on tuesday and preview the collection before anyone else. what an honor! it was so nice to really be able to linger over the details in the clothes ~ the intricate prints, surprising linings, thoughtful layering, super-precise collars and patchwork construction truly blew me away. and there's a trenchcoat in there that i doubt i can live without:

as my hair gets a teensy bit longer, i've been alternating between tighter, twenties-ish curls (as seen yesterday) and this looser, more natural wave (also worn on monday). it's the same process, but this time around i'm curling bigger sections at a time and using much less hairspray. love having another option! i can't wait till i can break into braids and buns and center parts and such. this is a whole new frontier of girlhood for me!!

do you ever have those days when the best you can do is throw on whatever's on top of the closest pile of clothes? me too! that's why i repeated this skirt instead of 'officially' unpacking my vegas suitcase. i guess it seemed easier than hanging it back up! okay, maybe i just really enjoy wearing it.

i liked the way this tie-dye tank dressed the skirt down for daytime, while the little plaidie camp shirt got added for the sake of modesty. call me old fashioned, but i'm not really comfortable with having bare arms/shoulders on the subway. too much creepy rubbing-up against strangers! so ~ even when it's sweltering ~ i always bring a little something to cover up with when i'm underground.

wore my namesake dress (double-wrapped and tied in the back this time) in its newest iteration (leopard print!), for a recent night out with my best friends and siblings at the darby ~ our current favorite spot for dinner and dancing in the city. the dress twisted and twirled in the most delightful way, and these tassel-trimmed shoes felt like just the right finish.

i have blogged about my love for kelly wearstler time and time (and time!) again, but here we go once more. she remains the #1 influence on my own decor choices ~ my copy of HUE is so dismally tattered and love-worn, but every time i look at it i find something new to inspire me. plus, her new accessory collection just debuted this week online! i mean.

i've been impatiently waiting for an excuse to wear this dreamy dress {it first appeared in this post}, and a monday night dinner party at nyc-spot-of-the-moment the lion finally afforded the perfect opportunity! the fabric is beyond gorgeous ~ with nuance and details that are sadly lost in this light.


since the temperature miraculously dipped below 90, i couldn't resist pairing it with my current favorite blazer. i always love a great jacket, and this one is the perfect weight, the perfect length ~ and the printed lining seems to weirdly work with everything in my closet! i capped it all off with an enormous necklace ~ a must-wear for seated affairs, when you need {more than ever!} an ensemble that entertains from the waist up.
