this weekend: wear, wear, re-wear. { versace sunnies, kelly framel earrings (NEW!), h+m scarf, zara leopard coat & snakeskin blouse, michael kors watch, vintage ring, gifted kate spade broome street jeans, pour la victoire boots }

{ costume of the day } cougar town

{ vintage scarf-turned-turban (tutorial coming soon! tutorial posted HERE!), vintage YSL sunnies, gifted tory burch blouse, hyde belt, club monaco wrap-front pants (last seen HERE), hue socks, pour la victoire boots }

{ stole the show }

started obsessing over leopard stoles when first i saw them on dries van noten's fall 2010 runway...

...the fire was rekindled when they recently began popping up all over the street style sites...

...and the desire has finally been (delightfully faux!) satisfied by my most recent e-order:

i promise you, this piece is even better* in person!! i'll probably be wearing it all winter...

*and it's only $20!! honestly, i would have bought it even if they weren't a sponsor of this site. it's a great trend, a fun piece & SO versatile!

{ spot on }

{ elizabeth cabral // photo via style.com }

another recent favorite streetstyle snap (the collarless trench is lovely, but it's the mixology that makes it!). leopard motifs rate just before kimonos on my list of all-time favorite things ~ and that spotted, skinny belt is a piece every girl needs. we've all noticed how groovy olive green has become, plus the bag she's wearing reminds me of the one i linked here. in short, this look sort of has it all: it's classic, timeless, ageless ~ but still quirky, unserious, and so appropriately now!

{ the fashion ranger }

{ i wore: primary blouse, zara skirt, camille zarsky clutch (my wardrobe's fashion week MVP!), corello shoes }

getting a cab when you need one is among the hardest parts of fashion week (that and the lack of sleep), so i was happy to team up with mercedes benz's fashion ranger on saturday. they drove me around to shows, and in between i prowled the town, scouting for the fiercest leopard-spot-sporters on the scene (including superstar stylist june ambrose, below):

you all probably know that leopard is by far my favorite print, so this was a fun project to be a part of. click over to my facebook page for TONS more street style snaps!!

beso besotted { a glamourai giveaway }

{ above: rochas pump, timmy woods carved minaudiere, modcloth shoe clips }

i totally did it: i bought myself those captivating, cougar-tastic casadei boots for my birthday (okay, maybe i picked up the other prezzies too). but don't think i'm done shopping for spotted stuff! i'm completely besotted!! this year, i know i need a be-speckled bag, blouse, bootie, and bonnet...

{ above: tory burch + miu miu boots // below: yves saint laurent + stuart weitzman boots }

i feel like i could do a trend report on leopard print every single season*, and it would continually be prescient. this motif is forever "back in style." still, it seems to be more relevant than ever this fall ~ especially where accessories are concerned. like i need any more encouragement to stock up on my favorite print!
*oops, i think i HAVE.

enter BESO. perhaps you've heard of this super search engine? i for one am among the newly initiated ~ and completely infatuated. beso allows you to browse (what seems like) every store on the internet at once, in pursuit of whatever is currently captivating your imagination ~ be it silky caftans, olive anoraks ~ or leopard accessories. how do you think i discovered that i need most of the gear pictured here?!? it enables you to convince yourself that you're "saving tons of time" while deep into your fourth hour of trolling through new boots and bags. or maybe that's just me?

maybe not! with fashion week (or a new school year) looming, we could all use a frippery refresh. that's why beso and i have teamed up to provide one of you with a pre-fashion week treat, in the form of a $500 gift certificate to the store of your choice!

{ above: coach + valentino bags, rebecca minkoff clutch }

here's how it works: [1] hop over to beso now to find that special something you'd love to wear to the shows next week. [2] pop back over here and paste the beso link to your selection in the comments section of this post. [3] sign your comment with a google ID or email address, so we can reach you if (when!!!) you win [4] next wednesday, september 8th (the first day of fashion week!), i'll randomly select one lucky winner for the $500 prize. bonne chance!!

{ only one entry per person, please. multiple entries will be deleted. }

*** UPDATE 09.08.10: this contest is now closed. thank you so much to everyone who entered!!! and congratulations to JEANY, who won!! ***

{ wish list }

today is my birthday! in celebration of the past year and in preparation for the one ahead, i think i'll cross a few things off the old wish list and treat myself to a some birthday bounty:

{ dreaming of: rachel rachel roy ear cuff, casadei leopard boots, miu miu pants }

any excuse to do a little back-to-fall shopping, right?!

{ leopard lady }

{ karen walker sunnies, primary 'kelly' dress (you've seen me wear the exact same print HERE and HERE), rachel rachel roy clutch, sergio rossi shoes }

wore my namesake dress (double-wrapped and tied in the back this time) in its newest iteration (leopard print!), for a recent night out with my best friends and siblings at the darby ~ our current favorite spot for dinner and dancing in the city. the dress twisted and twirled in the most delightful way, and these tassel-trimmed shoes felt like just the right finish.

{ fizzy lizzy }

{ vintage ray-ban sunnies, kelly framel agate bauble necklace (similar HERE!), primary leopard tank (last seen HERE) and snakeskin clutch, corello belt, prada pants, alexander wang shoes + 3D glitter nail polish from my trip to brazil }

i'd like to strongly suggest that any of you who love leopard print and/or easy dresses as much as i do should immediately order up this chloe sevigny for opening ceremony frock, before they're all sold out and it's simply too late. i snagged it in its already-gone polka dot iteration, and it's quickly proven to be such a wardrobe workhorse: something you can wear to work, the laundromat, a cocktail party, and even to bed. i ordered mine an extra size up for increased slouchiness, and other than my helmut lang blazers and j.f + son shorts (oh, and maybe my wang wedges), it's the best money i've spent this season.

while we're on the topic, check out THIS ARTICLE from the weekend's new york times, which examines the enduring allure of the always-lovely ms. sevigny.

{ the new leisure suit }

{ lanvin for h+m sunnies,
kelly framel jet leaf earrings and crystal meridian ring, helmut lang blazer, primary | new york silk t-shirt, alexander wang shorts (now on sale!) }

this may simply be a part of getting older, but more and more i feel most comfortable in clothes that are at once perfectly pulled-together and still totally relaxed. for instance, a great tailored jacket feels casual-as-can-be (but still appropriate anywhere), when paired with slouchy, statement-making shorts (instead of the more-expected skirt or pants). it feels grown-up but not uptight; therefore, just right.

{ repeat anew }

i ordered the blouse below around the time of my recent quintessentially post, and linked to it therein ~ siting it as a more understated way to wear the featured ensemble. more recently, unintentionally, i finished that thought:

i didn't realize until after shooting these photos how similar this look was to the latter example. if i had, i might not have shot it ~ but the truth is in real life we all wear our favorite pieces and silhouettes over and over, all the time. and this turned out to be a good example of how to wear the same look in a different (one month closer to summer) sort of way!

{ karen walker sunnies, vintage anne klein earrings, coach moto jacket, TOV blouse, courtesy of modcloth, kelly framel ring, primary | new york clutch, zara skirt (last seen HERE), juicy couture leather shorts, dries van noten shoes }

{ slick city }

{ leopard-lined umbrella from nordstrom rack, house of harlow sunnies (originally in THIS POST), vintage anne klein earrings, vintage trench (i recently replaced its originally too-matchy mustard buttons, which made a world of difference), banana republic heritage vest (recently seen HERE and HERE), vintage chanel belt (i bought it on my last trip to austin, and introduced in THIS POST), juicy couture cuff (last seen HERE), vintage 50's skirt (i discovered in on this day in las vegas), hue socks, stuart weitzman boots (also seen HERE) }

while i've been dreaming about sandals and swimsuits, the weather has actually stayed pretty nasty in new york (it's slowly warming up slightly, but those famed april showers are in full effect!). good thing there's costumery for all occasions! to check out more of my rain day duds, click HERE and HERE.

{ fragments of light }

{ lanvin for h+m sunnies, kelly framel leather loop earrings, vintage metallic blouse, vintage leopard pleated skirt, vintage clutch, HUE tights, lanvin for h+m shoes }

leaving 'look who got dressed in the dark!' jokes aside, this is the sort of outfit that i feel so completely comfortable in that putting it together is almost involuntary. give me a metallic blouse, knotted + leopard skit + similarly printed shoes and i'm good to go any day.
