{ costume of the day } wellie up

please excuse the overuse of umbrella-as-prop in these pics ~ it was really raining when they were taken! indeed, for the first half of this week, NYC was quite suddenly plunged deep into the midst of monsoon season.

my stylistic tricks for getting through such periods are:
[1] have a couple cute umbrelleries on call at all times (those cheapie-deepie, hook-beaked black numbers they sell on the street make bad weather seem even more grim!), and [2] wear something short enough to balance out the unfortunate loss of leg-length caused by unwieldy wellies (this tip has been passed down to us all via the commandments of kate)!

other than that, i'm just taking cues from dries (again), and testing out this fall's preferred palette and olive-twill trend!

dance.dance.dance { to the max.max.max }

anyone who knows me knows i have absolutely no rhythm ~ and very, very little coordination. physicality is not my forte; i'm incredibly clumsy. nonetheless, i enjoy clothes that inspire dancing ~ as this top undoubtedly does!

speaking of danspiration, the title of this post was partly inspired by the graffiti in the background of these photos {max.max.max!!}, and partly by one of these favorite books: dance dance dance by haruki murakami. if you've yet to read it, i suggest adding it to your summer book list post haste!!
what titles would you recommend that i add to mine?

{ fireworks }

{ karen walker sunnies, jean paul gaultier top (previously seen HERE), corello belt (last seen HERE), dedegumo watch, juicy couture cuff and linen shorts, vintage clutch, alexander wang shoes }

i have now worn this exact ensemble twice this month (changing only the belt). the first time was for the fourth of july ~ it just seemed so appropriate for fireworks-watching!! and i enjoyed that evening so much that i decided to give the look another go this week. meanwhile, it's been almost a year since i first wore the top ~ it seems apropos only in the extreme height of summer, and then it's just right.

{ costume of the day } spots + stripes

as you may have noticed (here + here), i'm on a serious nautical stripe this spring! besides my various breton tops, this swingy cardi has quickly become the season's mvp ~ i wore it all over my trip across texas! it's the perfect weight for spring mornings and evenings, and looks great slung over the shoulders as the afternoons heat up. the fact that it's fitted through the bust and arms, but drapey over the hips means it's flattering no matter what it's paired with below. i'm sort of obsessed.

styled with my other favorite print (polka dots!), an oversized ring, super pop sunnies, a bow tie blouse, and i'd say this outfit pretty much sums up my style. everything i love is here!

my dreamy cardi came courtesy of modcloth ~ a new sponsor of the glamourai. you may have noticed their ad popping up on my sidebar. i'm really proud to welcome them to the mix! they offer a lovely assortment of super affordable dream pieces; this top is just the tip of the iceberg.

{ mademoiselle } en jeans

these vogue spain scans of vanessa paradis wearing ripe white tops and embellished tweed jackets, incongruously combined with dilapidated dungarees...

...inspired me to recently wear this jacket with a favorite bowtie top and too-big, moth-eaten jeans:

what do you think, is it a fitting tribute??

{ tom ford anouk sunnies, elie tahari for neiman marcus jacket (recently seen HERE), jean paul gaultier top, men's calvin klein jeans, kenzo for wolford stockings, prada shoes (i've had 'em forever, but just rediscovered them in my studio last week!) }
