{ costume of the day } citizen/bazaar

it was nice to run into jason from citizen couture last week during the fashion madness at lincoln center. not long ago, jason dared to trade in his corporate job and pursue a more impassioned life in fashion. clearly, the risk paid off ~ he's currently shooting streetstyle for harper's bazaar! i met him last winter when we shot THIS POST together, and am thrilled to watch his success grow. we only had a moment to chat, but he managed to snap this picture of me before jetting off to europe for the rest of fashion month:

{ photo by jason jean for harpersbazaar.com // wearing: vintage ysl sunnies, self-designed earrings + necklace, chloe blouse (last seen HERE), vintage bracelets + rings, borrowed follis bag, miu miu pants (i pledged allegiance to them HERE), prada boots (barely visible, but they may be getting their own post pretty soon!) }

{ red run }

it seems that every show this season has been topped off with coral-colored lips. i'm loving the look!

i wrote a bit about it over on erin's blog, and was excited to spot this trend again at alice + olivia last night. actually, i was pretty excited by everything at that show ~ all my favorite things were there: printed palazzo pants, polka-dot spots, sequined separates, feather vests and leopard wedges. yes, please, to each of these!!

{ fashion's night out }

friday night threatened to be among the most mortifying moments of my life, but ended up being not only pain-free, but also surprisingly fun!! with next to no broadcasting experience, i was thrown right into the line of fire by juicy couture, who hired me to host a three-hour livestream from their 5th avenue fashion's night out party with erin fetherston.

foolhardy as it may sound, this collaboration actually made a bit of sense. you see, i've recently joined forces with erin to help launch her new and improved website, which includes her first-ever e-commerce shop and blog ~ and just debuted yesterday! between this new interactive interface, tonight's runway show (which will also be live-streamed, starting around 6:45!), and erin's illustrious design post at juicy, it's a really exciting time for both brands, and i'm pretty thrilled to be along to document bits of the adventure.

{ erin wore: a new beaded tee + draped skirt from her upcoming juicy couture collection (in stores in november!) // i wore: a self-designed necklace, bird by juicy couture furry vest, erin fetherston dress, vintage bracelets + clutch, juicy couture ring + badgley mischka shoes }

ad-libbing on camera for hours on end was certainly a challenge, but thankfully juicy really knows how to throw a party, so there was nary a dull moment. CLICK CLICK CLICK to read all about the night on erinfetherston.com ~ then stick around over there for the live-stream!!

{ tonight }

tonight, starting at 7pm, i'll be hosting a livestream on juicycouture.com, from their fashion's night out event. i'll be chatting with chicly dressed guests (maybe you?!), as well as the brand's new designer, erin fetherston and the superstar band, metric! // what kind of questions would you like erin and metric to answer? let me know in the comments, and follow me on twitter to get up-to-the-minute updates on the streaming circus!

PS: the event itself IS open to the public, so if you're in NYC, please stop by and say hi!!

{ calm before the storm }

new york fashion week 'officially' kicks off tomorrow (soft launch today) ~ who's ready?! i wish some cooler weather would arrive along with it so i could bust out my new fall favorites, but i don't dare get my hopes up too high.

i'll be kicking things off at thursday's ifb conference, then spending fashion's night out with erin fetherston at the juicy couture store. would love to see lots of you at either event!

oh { the places you'll go }

yesterday's post reminded me to dig up the photos i took at the tod's presentation during milan fashion week. it's yet another collection designed by the ever-more prolific derek lam ~ and it's inspiring how he's been able to translate his fairly american taste for minimalist luxury for this venerable italian brand.

even more spectacular than ogling the goods on display was getting to spend a while wandering around villa necchi, the famed palazzo where the presentation was held, and which also served as the set of the beautiful tilda swinton film, i am love. a stunning setting for a first-class collection!

{ derek lam } for ebay

minimalism for the masses// i took the above photos at the derek lam x ebay presentation during fashion week in february; fashion fans later voted to decide which 5 pieces would go into production. i have been interested to see how this concept would perform ~ and although the items aren't technically available until may 10th, the collection is currently available for pre-order, and already sold out in nearly every size.

it's intriguing to watch as ebay (one of my very favorite hunting grounds for the vintage and/or obscure) dips its toes into this world of custom content and collections. i look forward to seeing what's next up their sleeves!!

{ trying to taxi }

{ wearing... lots of remixed favorites! tom ford 'anouk' sunnies, coach moto jacket (last seen HERE), cecico blouse (via modcloth / first seen HERE), kiki de montparnasse tank (recently seen HERE), rue de... jeans (also worn HERE), anya hindmarch bag (last carried HERE) }

got caught trying to hail a taxi during new york fashion week, by jason jean of citizen couture. CLICK HERE to check out his original post, and HERE to see all the images we've made together.

{ window dressing }

i've just returned home from milan, where i went for a few days' of fashion week action. while there, i was invited to style the front window of the dolce & gabbana flagship store ~ talk about a dream come true!

{ pictures by dennison bertram and me }

this experience got me thinking back to a decade ago, when it came time for me to apply to university and pick a career. there were so many things i wanted to do (fashion design, merchandising, styling, illustration; jewelry; product design; interior design; creative writing; journalism ~ and on and on!!), but conventional wisdom decreed that i had to pick just one. so, i chose to focus on designing clothes, then studied and ultimately worked in that field for many years. but eventually, i found myself longing for more. i loved what i was doing; yet my imagination got antsy.

thus, this blog came about as a much-needed creative outlet (one that i long-assumed would remain secret) ~ and now, i suddenly realize that i'm actually getting to do all the things i ever dreamed of! and i have to thank all of YOU for making it possible, and inspiring me to keep moving forward. if i can do it, you can too!! life really is as big and as full as we can dream it to be, don't you agree?!

{ alice + olivia } fall 2011

lately, there's been a lot of haute talk bandied around the interwebs about man repelling ~ and while i am certainly a proponent of dressing for fashion over fornication, there's still something to be said for the kinds of clothes that gentleman enjoy. and i don't mean naughtily-little-bitty numbers, but unapologetically pretty, figure-flattering frocks ~ the likes of which alice & olivia churns out consistently and (seemingly!) effortlessly every season. here are a few of my favorite moments from their recent presentation at the plaza hotel:

{ sublimely suno }

mining the possibilities in mixology has always been a priority around these parts, which is why SUNO's old-lady-inspired presentation was among my favorites this season. now that i've seen their moodboards ~ featuring a pastiche of prints and a favorite photo of iris apfel ~ via vogue's first look feature, i'm loving the collection even more!!

{ everyday perfection }

there wasn't a thing i didn't adore about ADAM's fall 2011 collection ~ and those lace-inset shirtdresses especially need a place in my closet. the styling was also lovely, with every look finished by those sweet suede shoes and simple socks. sign me up! { images via style.com }
