March Movie Madness

Two movies that come out on March 11th that I'm pretty excited about...

Jane Eyre: I've always loved the BBC version with Toby Stephens and Ruth Wilson and I hope this one is equally as good.

Red Riding Hood: The tale always fascinated me as a girl and I love Gary Oldman.
...
Will any of you be seeing these as well? Any other movies you're excited about?

Yours,
Maria Sig 2

{ cinema chic } in the mood for love

forget mad men (seriously, i tried watching sunday's new episode and was resoundingly underwhelmed)!! if you're in the market for some stylishly steamy 1960's bed-swapping sultriness, try renting wong kar-wai's classic masterpiece in the mood for love. the entirety of this stunningly-shot film reads like an fashion mag's editorial take on tom ford's fall 2004 collection for yves sant laurent. you won't be able to look away!

while i've not exhausted her repertoire and thus am loathe to claim favorites, i must say i've long been enamored with elizabeth taylor's opulent costumery in elephant walk. it's a bit of unsung fun; have you seen it? i'm not saying it was one of her most astonishing cinematic successes ~ but if you love chiffon, you should.

which of her films was your favorite? and how groovy are these shots (by wayne maser for american vogue, october 1987) of the babe taylor?! more HERE.

{ currently channeling } an unmarried woman

as the title of this post suggests, the costumery enclosed was inspired by paul mazursky's 1978 film, an unmarried woman ~ the story of a lady who finds unexpected liberation after her husband leaves her for a younger lass.

oftentimes described as 'the original sex & the city', its message of feminine independence remains imminently modern ~ and the flick's look is having its own resurgence this season.

i kept thinking about the attitude of its heroine, erica benton, during new york fashion week, as so many collections (like marc by marc jacobs) seemed merrily mired in the silhouettes of the seventies. this is my own ode to the era.
