{ real good lookin }

as i mentioned yesterday, i had the great opportunity of collaborating with famed fashion designer josie natori to co-design my own, one-of-a-kind dress for the coach collectibles launch party. and now that very frock can be yours!

honestly, it's incredibly to part with it. in every way, it really is my ultimate dream dress ~ from the silhouette, to the print, to the lovely memories that were made in it.

but when i heard the passion with which josie talks about her intimate involvement with women in need (she's been on their board since 2005!), there was absolutely no question of my keeping it. i've been very blessed in my life ~ especially lately, it seems ~ and i felt this was an unmissable opportunity to share my good fortune with those who need it even more. at the very least, i hope to raise awareness of this noble organization's efforts ~ but to be able to offer them some serious dough would be even better!

thus, this oh-so special dress will be up for auction on ebay for the next week. please bid generously ~ because the only thing that feels better than looking marvelous is doing something great for someone else! that being said, i can't promise that i won't get in there and try to buy back it myself!!

{ costume of the day } best night ever

last night's coach collectibles launch party ~ held at the brand's magnificent madison avenue flagship store ~ was easily one of the most memorable moments of my life! i've got a whole other post in the works featuring pics from the event, but first things first: what i wore:

such a special occasion called for a super special ensemble ~ ie: high fashion-pressure potential! luckily, designer josie natori generously offered to make me the custom dress of my dreams. how could i refuse?!

we collaborated on the design, which was engineered to reflect my style signatures, josie's expert specialties, and of course, the look of my bag. thus, the keyhole shoulders (a personal favorite, seen regularly in my glamourwrap designs), the lush, exotically printed silk (a natori trademark), and the intricately seamed lantern sleeves ~ whose hidden architecture precisely mimics the curved construction of my coach tote.

i felt easily chic all night long ~ and also like the luckiest girl in the world! in an attempt to give back a small portion of the overwhelming good fortune which has been bestowed upon me, i'll be re-teaming with josie natori to auction off this very-dear dress on ebay, with 100% of the proceeds going to women in need, a new york organization that provides housing and job training to homeless women and their families. stay tuned for more details!

wishing my fellow americans a fun & safe memorial day weekend, with this unintentionally (but fortuitously) patriotic costumery. i'll be spending the next few days helping my baby sister move to new york city. i couldn't be more excited about anything else in the whole world!!

{ costume of the day } spring's things

could it really be spring? all of a sudden, the weather is jaw-droppingly lovely! fingers crossed, i'm celebrating by wearing bright-white wispies and a few new accessories:

the jewelry is part of my latest lust for glammed-up nautical cording and resorty tortoise-shell tones. // these sunnies were a gift from the sweet people at natori. since my favorite old two tones have seen better days ~ i've worn them almost to pieces ~ i had the lenses of this new pair customized to take over their role in my repertoire.


this big ivory bag is also a new friend. it was a 'baby gift' (from coach) for bunny ~ perfectly picked to tote her around in (it's so cute with her coloring!) ~ but i've found myself wanting to carry it even without her in it. today it's paired with yet another new staple: my miu miu snakeskin swallow brooch. i'm pretty sure i can find a place on any outfit to stick it! from where i stand, the start of spring sure seems sublime.

{ natori } only nighties no more

everyone talks about the cause for clothes that can transition from day to night, but little attention is given to those lovelies that achieve the exact opposite. that's right, i'm talking about nighties nice enough to wear out on the town!

for years now, josie natori's loungewear has been my chic sleep-to-street secret. her luscious fabrics, forgiving cuts, and super-fine finishing are too fab to be hidden away at home. a few of my favorites have even made it out of the boudoir and onto this blog:

truth be told, there's very little difference between a pajama pant and a palazzo. so i've been known to shop the sleepies section for silky separates ~ like the watercolor-print pretties at right ~ that with the right heel and enough jewelry look just right for august cocktails in palm beach or the hamptons. and in today's casual culture, a silky nightshirt (like the one at left) seems downright formal in a sea of tee-shirt dresses!

my fandom fully established, i jumped at an invitation to visit josie last night in her elegant manhattan home, and preview her new natorious daywear line for spring 2010. comprised of just-right jersey and cashmere separates that called to mind the quiet cleverness of donna karan's original 'seven easy pieces', she described the collection as: "what every woman needs to build a foundation for her wardrobe." it perfectly integrated her expertise in making clothes that are comfortable, crushable (read: traveler tough!) and totally covetable. i can assure you that a few will be working their way into my wardrobe ~ a certain stretch lace pencil skirt has already appeared in my sleeping dreams...
