usually, i use this page to talk about the fun, fancy things in life ~ and i have no intention of changing that. but sometimes i feel the need to let a few deep dark secrets out of my closet...

occasionally, i've been known to make derisive comments about grunge style. it's not that i'm actually against the look per se, but i hate what it represents: that we've lost touch with the art of dressing up! it's a ritual which should begin with good foundations. beyond making sure your bra is the right size (please have a professional help you here! you'll be so happy you did!), there are a couple things that i think we all should know & own:

1. the perfect slip: much as i love (and collect) pretty vintage slips, they don't quite cut it for line-less under-coverage. that's why every lady needs at least one commando in her closet! they are totally seamless, never ride up, and come in a range of cuts, colors, and lengths. i wear this black mid-length camisole under just about everything.

2. a classic pump that matches your skin tone: i recently ordered this nude shoe, and plan to wear it everywhere once the weather warms up. nothing lengthens the leg better than an invisible slipper! find one that works with your coloring, and you'll have a shoe that's sure to match any outfit.

3. power panties: not just for grannies anymore! i've been in the fitting room with some of the biggest stars in hollywood, and can honestly say that everyone you see walking a red carpet is wearing a pair of these. i've managed to convince all my girlfriends that spanx are not the enemy; it's about creating a smooth line for your clothes to glide over ~ no matter your shape.

~ what are your top-drawer tricks? ~
