{ all wrapped up } in you

{ vintage coat, rachel rachel roy gremlin ear cuff, scarf from india, self-designed glamourwrap dress [it has a hidden front pocket, i'm not being creepy], wolford stockings, pura lopez boots }

like i promised last week, i've just debuted a slew of new glamourwrap dresses over on shrimpton couture. each of them fits as seen in these photos, and can be worn in all the same ways as my regular wraps, but are cut a bit longer and equipped with an optional snap-front placket ~ actually making them more versatile than ever before! what do you think?!

i still love wearing them open [as a blazer or vest] ~ but feel pretty chic with one all buttoned up [as a cocoon coat or belted wrap dress]. most recent examples of them in action can be seen here, here, and ~ embarrassingly ~ here.

i also added the necklaces from this post into the glamporium ~ where a few special sparklers are suddenly on sale!

why don't you... peruse this pictoral preview of a new style i just finished for shrimpton couture: glamourwrap dresses! tune in monday for the collection kick-off; until then, bon weekend!

{ nyfw } kick-off party

last night i was joined by krystal simpson (straight off a plane and STILL looking insane) to kick-off fashion week ~ valentine style! the festivities commenced at curve, where we fêted the US launch of jovial japanime character pucca. aided by buoyant refrains spun by harley viera newton, plus an abundance of mini-cupcakes and godiva truffles, the crowd was equally animated. everyone seemed so happy that fashion week had begun!

on display were darling designs from a few of my favorite fashion friends:

but we mostly had eyes for the sugar-sweet heart-shaped sunnies (i left with a black pair that i plan to wear all week). viva l'amour & glamour!!

{ glamporium morn } black beauty

i am very excited today to announce that a brand-new batch of black glamourwraps ~ along with a gaggle of chain-trimmed liberty-print obis ~ have just arrived at shrimpton couture!
{ get one while they last! the wraps are now sold out. i'll try to restock really soon! }

the other day, on twitter, a friend suggested that i thematize my designs after favorite films. i like the idea, but can i start with a book (that's been made into movies) instead? if so, i declare this black beauty week ~ for in addition to the raven wraps, our newest etsy collection is all about equestrian chic!

{ how to wear } cropped kimonos

a client of mine received a pink glamourwrap from her husband for christmas (lucky lady!). she plans to take it with her on an upcoming cruise, and recently emailed me for ideas on how to wear it (besides the obvious 'throw it over a bathing suit' suggestion). this prompted a search through my inspiration files; here are a few of my favorite wrap stars. these styles can also be exquisitely executed with any cropped kimono you already own:

1/ i love nicole richie's casual evening outfit. with a pregnant belly, she proves this look works on all body types! i think her ensemble would be equally chic if the dress stretched to the floor. wear this to dinner anywhere in the world and feel both appropriate and alluring.
2/ natalia vodianova epitomizes hippie chic in a minimalist white sheath (with sleeves!). keeping her hair and footwear similarly simple allows her to go wild with a patterned wrap and serious statement necklace. this is slightly dressier than richie's interpretation, and would work wonderfully for a wedding.
3/ catherine baba's costume may be too much for some, but strip away a few accessories and you've got a pretty pliable rubric. like our other ladies, she keeps her underpinnings pretty simple, letting the topper do the talking. reimagine this silhouette with leggings, jeans, or ~ in the case of my cruising client ~ a pair of palazzo pants! finish it with boots, à la baba, or a pair of strappy sandals and an obi belt!

{ costume of the day } talisman

confession: i wear my glamourwrap A LOT. so much so that it would quickly become embarrassing if i posted every time i put it on. i don it when i'm working, and rock it around the house after a shower. i throw it on to run to the market to make whatever i've got on feel more 'together' and i wear it to just about every single sunday brunch or late night party i attend. it just always works.

i wear it so much that sometimes it ceases to feel newsworthy. as such, this outfit is a few days old (if you read my twitter feed, you know that my hair now looks more like this), but it's indicative of what i'm wearing when i'm not posting:

i bought this shirt on a recent trip out east. the glamour guy and i were in the john varvatos store ~ shopping for him ~ but when i saw this oh-so-soft silk shirt, with its inverted collar and ribbon trim, i knew it had to be for me. it has since become the second most-worn piece in my wardrobe.

in this instance, my uniform is made more special with some custom jewels, a beaded bag, and two layers of tights: one matte black pair under grey lace.

{ versace sunnies, h+m beanie, self-designed glamourwrap, john varvatos men's shirt, vintage skirt + clutch, f21 tights, custom jewels (rings available now at shrimpton couture!), aldo shoes }

i've got good news for all of you who like the look: a fresh crop of black glamourwraps will be hitting the shrimpton couture store this coming monday. if you've been waiting for one, this is your chance!
