{ costume of the day } somebody dropped a house on her

i wasn't hyperbolizing when i posted about the importance of trench coats this time of year. as i ran around town yesterday, it seemed that 1 in every 3 new yorkers was sporting the style! i can't stop wearing mine.

did you know that the semi-detached yoke that decorates the right shoulder and back of a trench coat is called the 'storm patch'? well, the button popped off my storm patch yesterday, and i didn't have time to sew it back on right away ~ so i pinned a little brooch in its place!

although this outfit looks nothing like this one, to me they are similar in that they both exemplify my personal style ethos. each are comprised of classic pieces, executed in nontraditional ways, then topped off with way too much jewelry! it's a fairly easy recipe.

in a less predictable twist, i'm loving the look of a kitten heel right now. after such a long reign of six-inch stompers in style, something so deliberately dwarfish feels really fresh. they're so terribly nerdy and unsexy ~ which is exactly why i find them cool. the glamourguy (whose shirt i'm thieving here) calls this pair my 'dorothy' shoes. personally i think they're much more 'wicked witch of the east', but he's too nice to say so.

{ vintage ysl sunnies, the glamourai earrings and moroccan cascades necklace, lea stein brooch, l'ecole des femmes trench, ralph lauren men's shirt, vintage bustier, ports 1961 skirt, corto moltedo cassette clutch (last blogged HERE), vintage rings & bracelets, random tights, vintage prada shoes }

PS: as we speak, shrimpton couture is hosting a massive, 3-day, all-things-glamourai 'cinderella sale'~ so called because at the end of it, many of the pieces will disappear forever! don't let that something special slip away!!
